Otherwise Known as "Project Day"

So I made an executive decision recently to turn Caroline and my weekly craft day (okay, so I don't like the word "craft" so "project" day) into invite-a-friend-to-join-us project day.
Here's today's project. You can do it yourself. Purchase heat bond adhesive from a "project" store and choose a design. The directions are simple.

It couldn't make me any happier to have a girl who's into dinosaurs.

Here's the back of the shirt.

This turtle tee is Jo Jo's. Bobby's most recent nickname (there's a new one every month) is "turtle without a shell." My mom thinks it is cruel, I think it is hilarious, and sometimes she does look like one.

Turtle without a shell, anyone?

And a little snail on the back. I think the snail needs an eye.

Christina and Ellie should be posting their day's projects soon.

Something to Pull On

At what point in a mother's life is her hair not the source of everyone's comfort?

It works out well that I rarely ever "do" my hair (meaning hair drying, straightening...) because it is always being yanked, bobby pin pulled out, hair pulled out--you get the picture. I used to save the hair "doing" at least for Sunday church, but that is a rarity these days. If I could just find a hair cut that looked great without any maintenance or pulling back constantly...ladies, any help???

Moments

Yesterday was one of those days. I was jogging with the girls with their rice cakes in hand. It was crisp and cool with the early days of fall approaching when Caroline began talking. Not really about anything, but a continuous strand of words about everything going on in her life. My music as background in my ears, the chatter of my little one, and my littlest, sitting crossed-legged, silently. We flew past the houses around us, as if in our own little world.

The moment was perfect, total bliss. Life doesn't get any better than this.

Rules are Subject to Change

Rule 286:

If someone is playing with a toy, it is their toy. The minute it is dropped, the toy no longer belongs to that individual. The toy is fair game at that very moment.

Ahhh... you win some, you lose some at parenting.

Eriko's Baby Shower

My great friend, Eriko, just had her baby boy. Her darling little Ayumi is also Caroline's playmate. We gave her a shower at my place recently.

I've been dying to use this cool fabric that I bought a couple years ago back in college. I traced out an owl figure and used that bond adhesive stuff to secure the owl to a onesie. I sewed the same fabric onto a burp cloth to match. And the Old Navy shorts I found matched perfectly for a gift!

I can't help it, here is Johanna in her own owl onesie.

Summer Projects

Now that Johanna is so predictable with naps, etc., I have loved getting back into some of my hobbies. I try to invite Caroline to help on some occasions which lasts for about 5 minutes until she's off and running.

Here are the latest booties I made for Bobby's boss's baby. These are my Wool felt booties which I made larger than a lot of the booties I've made in the past. (Sorry to those of you who got really small booties!)

I've missed doing art over the years. I was commissioned to do a painting for a friend of her husband's favorite building (one of Frank Lloyd Wright's last buildings) the Gammage Building.

I've recently realized that it is more likely that I'll do art while there are kids trying to dip their fingers in my paint water if I try smaller canvas'.

So here are two small pieces I did for some recent wedding gifts: one of Budapest at Night (the bride served her mission there.)

The next, the Washington DC temple at night (I wanted so badly to stick to using the bride and grooms wedding colors- black, white, red. So I did the temple at night with its' famous Christmas lights.)
